Jody C. Hutchinson, Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and Sports Massage, has specialized in massage therapy for over 18 years in the Monterey area. He is proficient in many areas, but specializes in Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Medical/Clinical Massage, Chair Massage, Deep Tissue, and Trigger Point Therapy. He is one of the most professional and well-trained massage therapists in Monterey County.
Jody graduated from Robert Louis Stevenson High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Psychology at the University of California- Santa Barbara. He participated in many sports including swimming, alpine skiing, water polo, ultimate Frisbee, running, weight training and bicycling. After college he competed in triathlons for five years, finishing over 30 events. He finished in the top 20 overall in one-third his races and discovered the benefits of massage therapy as an athlete. He began studying massage in college and graduated from the Monterey Institute of Touch (MIT) in 1987. Jody continued his education throughout the state of California with Sports Massage and Deep Tissue classes and volunteered at many athletic events. He became a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) in 1988.
Jody was then hired at MIT as the Sports Massage instructor in 1988 and developed three classes with training materials while training over two hundred students. He also helped develop the Monterey Bay Sports Massage Team and served as team captain at the Big Sur International Marathon until 1992. He was the Sports Massage consultant and team leader for the first Vineman Triathlon in Napa, California, the West coast’s first Ironman race in 1990.
The AMTA National Sports Massage Team certified him as Sports Massage Therapist in 1989. He also was the AMTA California Chapter Sports Massage Team Director from 1989-1991. Jody began racing mountain bikes, did volunteer bike patrol work for the Bureau of Land Management and the local mountain bike club, and also competed in cyclocross racing. He also studied pre-Physical Therapy at Monterey Penninsula College while continuing with his massage practice. Jody retired from bicycle racing in 2004. In 2004 he passed the National Certification Board Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Jody has studied with many of the leading educators in massage, including John Sanderson, Jeane Brown-Hopkins, John Harris, Whitney Lowe, Benny Vaughn, John Barnes, James Hackett, Robert King, Paul St. John, David Palmer, and many of the Upledger Institute’s best instructors.
The focus of his massage practice has been dedicated to caring for problems associated with the muscular system. His focus of interest is chronic, soft tissue pain and post-surgical rehabilitation. His clients include adults, professional, amateur, and high school athletes as well as weekend warriors and over worked professionals. Several of his clients have competed at the highest levels of their sport including swimming the English Channel, finishing an Ironman Triathlon, competing in the Olympic Trails in the Marathon, and the Indy 500.
Jody Hutchinson continues to provide his clients with expertise and advanced soft tissue modalities that may reduce complications, pain, and limitations for active clients. He is an expert in the field of massage therapy and has been working with local physicians, physical therapists, Pilates trainers, and chiropractors since 1988.
